Hiatus

I won't go into details, but let's just say I had to wrestle a bear while trying to save a kitten that was stuck in a tree as tall as the Eiffel Tower. So naturally, it has taken a while to recover from such an event.

Don't worry - I'm fine.

As for my progress...

I am so pleased to report that my first collection is almost ready to go up online! Although this S/S collection is being released a bit late in the season - I think it will be worth the wait!

Inspired by a 'Classic British Garden Party' as well as one of my dearest friends, Rose Willis (who is an amazing womenswear designer - check her out...) - This is a fun & feminine whimsical collection that can be worn for many seasons to come!

"English Rose" will be available online very soon!

Chopped Tomatoes - Cont'd

Here are some photos of the watch straps I picked up in Whitechapel market a couple weeks ago.
I haven't yet decided what I will use them for, but I think they will be featured in my A/W 2011 collection - coming this fall!

Also...

My 'Etsy' shop will be open soon! And keep an eye out for the official website launch which will be happening in a couple months - just in time for London Fashion Week 2011!

Lots of Love,

Chopped Tomatoes

So yesterday, I went to the market along Whitechapel Road, and I stumbled upon an amazing find!

There was this stall selling watches. They were a bit gotti (but I thought I would have a look anyway...). I glanced down to the right of me, and in a little basket was an assortment of old watch straps! Ok, so probably not everyones idea of the most AMAZING find - I get that, but I think there's a lot of potential to be had from these straps. I ended up purchasing quite a few and I'm thinking either a pendant for a necklace or perhaps I could take the more ironic route and play on the idea of a broken watch used as a bracelet.(People really don't seem to understand when I do that). I just think old watches can be beautiful, whether or not they can tell the time anymore.
The irony of wearing a broken watch as a bracelet - making something that is considered to be 'useless' into something 'useful' again. Hmmmm....

Pictures will soon follow - AFTER I get back from Brighton!

I'm going to check out 'The Lanes' and see what the independent jewellery market is about there. Possibily visit some charity shops as well?? Maybe I'll get lucky again and stumble upon something else 'amazing'.

As for 'Chopped Tomatoes', Well I have found myself without my notebook this morning. So instead I have made a makeshift notepad out of a Napolina's tinned Chopped Tomatoes packaging.

Much love,

The Ironing Board Diaries - P.1

I quit my job a month ago to work on an ironing board in my living room...

That makes sense right?

Well I know it does, although I can't help but feel (like at this very moment)....overwhelmed.

I am starting a business, making beautiful accessories out of new and up-cycled materials.

It's exciting and scary all at the same time. Every now and then when the excitement fades and reality sets in - I wonder have a I really thought this through?

I have my first meeting with my mentor today, and I have spread sheets and timelines to show her, which makes everything feel a bit more real. I guess the burning question in the back of mind right now is - "Can I really do this?"

At the end of the day though...

Small and humble - this ironing board marks the beginning of an arduous yet exciting time in my life.
It symbolizes the start of my journey to realize a dream that I've had for many, many years.

I never knew an ironing board could mean so much to me.

Wish me luck,

Bobby
